Freud described Religion as the universal neurosis, and considered all manifestations of it to be pathological. Since then, Psychoanalysis has carried with it the reputation of being hostile to religion. Katharine Canning first trained as a nurse, then as a Christian Counsellor, and then as a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist in which capacity she practiced full time for thirty years. She has long held an interest in integrating her professional training and identity with her Christian faith, and has found that what Psychoanalysis teaches about the earliest psychological and emotional development from infancy onwards, and the operation of the unconscious factors which influence us all, seminal in understanding not only her own clinical work, but in deepening her own understanding of her Christian faith. She hopes that the sharing of some of these insights will be helpful for you ……………….in your roles as Spiritual Directors??
Arrive from 10am the programme will start at 10.30.
