Singing the Office and the Eucharist Prayer – a practical day workshop for worship leaders, led by Piers Maxim
Piers has been singing in church all his life, starting as a chorister at St Paul’s Cathedral in the 1970’s, and moving through Choral Scholarships at Wells Cathedral and Clare College, Cambridge, to studying Conducting and Singing at the Guildhall School of Music, London. After singing in various London churches, he was appointed a Lay-Clerk at Southwark Cathedral, before moving away from church music for a while and being Chorus Master for two international Opera Companies. Since 2012, Piers has been Director of Music and Organist at Great Malvern Priory, and teaches singing and piano at Secondary Schools in the area, as well as assisting the monks and nuns at Mucknell Abbey with their singing.
This Quiet days is from 9.30am – 5.30pm and includes a 2 course lunch and refreshments.
Timetable:
9.30 arrival/register
10 – 1 Session 1 (including coffee break at 11.30) General singing techniques; singing in context of Worship, including a start at Plainchant
1 – 2 Lunch
2 – 4 Session 2 (including a short break) In depth look at Plainchant and the Compline liturgy
4.30 Break Teas/Coffees/Cake
5pm Sing together the Office of Compline (finish by 5.30, if not 5.20…!)
